About

Hi, thanks for visiting my blog!

I graduated in 2007 with a degree in Art Education. I am an elementary art teacher and I love teaching my students about artists and how to make different kinds of art. When I’m not teaching I also like to make things. I love to draw, paint, make prints, I dabble with basket weaving, and of course sewing.

After a few years of teaching experience under my belt, I’m ready to dedicate more of my time to creating my own art. Let me back up a little bit: I learned to sew in middle school in my Dad’s basement with my sister and step mom. I enjoyed it, but got too busy to continue sewing on a regular basis. Then, a few years ago I received a very generous Christmas gift from my mom: my very own sewing machine. I hadn’t sewn in a long time, but I was determined to put it to good use. I wasn’t ready to attempt an article of clothing…that required sewing curvy seams and trying on the garment for multiple fitting (I don’t even like to try on clothes in the dressing rooms at the mall.) I picked up a yard of canvas from the remant bin at the fabric store and thought I’d try my tote bag. I didn’t use a pattern, and I wasn’t exactly sure how going to turn out….but it did. I kept working at it and making revisions to the design, figuring out more economical ways of doing things. And I started to discover really cute fabrics. And before I knew it, I was hooked. I started with making one or two for myself, then as gifts for friends and family. Now I can’t stop making them! I love the idea of creating a special handmade item for someone, even a stranger,  to use, that will hopefully add to the beauty of their everyday life.

Please contact me with any questions or comments. My bags are available to purchase at my online shop.

Thanks!

p.s. You’ll also probably notice how much I love cats. But not in a creepy, crazy cat lady kind of way….I promise.
